We want to share a few principles that we consider essential to our lives, and have shaped the work we do at Kumankaya throughout the years.


While most are simple to understand, they are most powerful and transformative when you put them into practice.


Taking just one of these principles and embodying it in your life will deepen your practice and catalyze growth in your life.


We hope that they are as helpful for you as they have been for us, and for many who have visited us here.


  1. First and most importantly: search for God.
  2. Meditate and pray every day.
  3. ⁠⁠Spiritualize your life: do everything consciously.
  4. ⁠Everything starts with the body.
  5. ⁠⁠If you want the light to come to you, first create a temple of peace inside. An agitated mind cannot become enlightened.
  6. More dreams have been crushed by fear than by failure.
  7. 50% of the work is the retreat; 50% is integration and implementing the teachings into your life.
  8. ⁠⁠Never judge others, for we will never know their story. 
  9. L⁠earn forgiveness, for yourself and others.
  10. ⁠⁠Positive thinking creates happiness; negative thinking creates depression.
  11. The medicine is more than a powerful healing tool; it is a path, a way of life.
  12. Always stand behind your words.
  13. ⁠⁠Face reality.
